Interesting times...the best reason for a Happy Hour~! Is it time for the next Great Depression or perhaps I feel that way because I am over 50.
I was married for 25 years and now I'm divorced. Two girls, ages 25 and 20, and one grandson (soon to be two!). Love politics, economics, music, friends, family, sci fi, reading, philosophy.
Wish I understood the world of high finance better. Getting quite an education on Calculated Risk, but feel like the dunce in the corner of the classroom.
Don't just lurk! Make a comment. Even if I don't know you. Especially if I don't know you. Have a conversation with a fellow commenter. That is what makes a blog so fun to read. What do other people think about what you said. What do they say to each other. Link to someone's blog because you love their comments made here.
Have you ever used the Genius feature in iTunes? I love it. I have managed to accumulate a library of over 7,000 songs. Some I got from my daughter's collection of music. Hey, I paid for the damn CDs to begin with, so I figure I could download them to my computer with my conscious still intact. But, I also have music from friends who have interesting CDs, but I have such twinges of guilt doing so. I buy lots of CDs and always download and pay, but if a friend has a CD, sometimes I download it to mine. I would never run out and buy the Black Eyed Peas (or whatever), but some of their music is good. I feel guilty even admitting that and it will probably cause the Powers That Be to come after me. But maybe not.
Teddy Bear's music runs toward the indie side of things. The Yeah, Yeah Yeahs (who are no, no, no in my book), Aubrey Debauchery, The Avett Brothers, The Killers. I have learned to love Muse because of her and My Chemical Romance is another good one. Oh my gosh, I almost forgot Death Cab for Cutie.
I love Genius because if you click on a song that you like, it goes through your library of music, figures out what songs are like that and creates a playlist. You see, the Powers That Be should be happpy because I now love all kinds of music I would never really discover on my own but now I hunt down their CDs to buy. Teddy Bear had some music that her boyfriend liked from the band, H.I.M, and now I have purchased quite a few of their albums and the same goes for Linkin' Park. I also "discovered" Michael Buble and Steve Tyrell.
Yes, I love technology~! Always and forever, always and forever. - Kip, "Napoleon Dynamite"
I do not use an MP3 but Alli has a Zune and you could not pry it out of her hot little hands. She loves it. I love music too - lots of different kinds but NOT country. *shudder*
I wonder why some people like certain music and others don't? I dislike reggae and most music sung by women. It sounds for the most part like screeching to me. Think Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, etc. I like some songs by them don't get me wrong, but I will actually change songs or stations if I hear female voices.
I do like Stevie Nicks, Grace Slick, the Mamas and the Papas. Hmmmm. That sounds contradictory. Oh well.
I hate Celine Dion. Jodi calls her the "screaming Canadian toothpick." And nah, it's not contradictory to like some women's voices but not others. I don't love the big huge "ballad" voices myself. But I do like Reggae. And I have to say that I actually do like at least one country singer, and that's Carrie Underwood.
No Stagecoach Festival for you I guess. No Achy Breaky Heart or whatever. I have a question though. How do you discover new music? I never listen to the radio, do not watch MTV or VH1, so if it weren't for Teddy Bear and Casey, I am not sure how to find new music. Stuff that is totally different than what you are used to hearing.
I may have to start a new music post theme or something like that when I discover something new and maybe people will post their new music.
